I Bought A Van!

I'm rather excited to share that I've bought a van!

The idea came after I fell over putting my Trek in the car - It's not the first time it's happened but this time I damaged myself, scratched the chair and scuffed the car bumper... so I asked my mechanic friend if he thought it was a good idea and we started the hunt!

I've never had my own car (or van) so it's a whole new world for me. I did speak to Motability to see if the car could be swapped for something more suitable for my wheelchair but the best they could do was fit a hoist which wouldn't really have worked.

Anyway, after much searching, meet the Beast in the photo on the left.

She's a 2012 VW Caddy that has been professionally adapted many moons ago by Sirus Automotive - being purple it matches my Trekinetic wheel chair too!

We ended up taking a trip to Manchester and picked the van up two days before my birthday so I guess you could say is one of the best presents I've ever had.

Like an idiot I ended up leaving the "new keeper" green bit of paper with the seller so I couldn't sort the tax or insurance it but luckily he was kind enough to post it as soon as he realised my mistake so I spent the next day cleaning it inside and out whilst feeling annoyed at myself BUT come the day of my birthday the slip arrived in the post, I quickly taxed and insured it and then we set off to Bletchley Park!

Now if you know me I'm an absolute geeky nerd and I had wanted to go to Bletchley Park for many many years now and it was absolutely amazing - partly because I'm in my van which is a whole new level of freedom without faff, and partly because of the technology side of it and the importance of what happened behind those closed doors.

I love how you push a button, the suspension drops, the boot flings open and a ramp pops out - no more taking the wheels off the Trek and cramming it in the back of the car - and if I ever needed to, I could drive straight from a wheelchair - I will do a tour at some point but I've got a few things I want to do first, just take my word for it being an awesome bit of kit!

Oh, and hilariously the van cost less than wheelchair and I've managed to sort all this out on a tight budget whilst still not having heard a thing from wheel chair services - it really does feel like a losing battle to be disabled some days :/
