Here's my experience of buying a wheelchair accessible vehicle from WavMob.co.uk. It was more stressful than it needed to be and the van had serious issues with the adaptions and other things.
My old van decided it didn't want to join me on adventures anymore, so I went on the hunt for a new one and stumbled across WavMob.co.uk online.
After making a phone call, within a week I had a new van on my drive which was pretty impressive. The price was reduced as there was some damaged not mentioned and I thought that was that. I was wrong, after owning the van a few days, some issues appeared:
- There was a really musky smell that was getting worse. I was told this was just because it hadn't been used for a while but after looking around the van in more detail, it soon became apparent this was from smoking due to several cigarette burns found hidden in the upholstery (I was also told before buying the the van it hadn't been smoked in...)
- The rear cigarette lighter socket didn't work.
- The stop/start engine system didn't work.
- The tailgate didn't actually shut properly to the point where the headlights didn't turn off. I did ask about the lights when the van was dropped off and was told this was a safety feature but it soon became apparent that this wasn't by design.
- The winch stopped working intermittently.
Trying to get hold of someone to discuss the issues was frustrating, especially with the amount of money spent. My first van was just under £4,000 and I expected it to go wrong. This one was 3 times the price and had apparently been looked after.
I eventually managed to speak to the service manager after many phone calls and emails. The plan was for me to take the van to a local mechanic and they would pay for the repairs. Fair enough, not ideal but not impossible.
Sadly before I could arrange a trip to my mechanic, the hand controls got stuck and seized up whilst accelerating on a 70mph dual carriageway - yup! That was scary. So the next day I rang them and they promptly collected the van and returned it a week later with most of the issues sorted.
The smell lingered so I spoke to a local detailer and got that sorted myself.
Given I was told the van was in good working order it clearly wasn't. I think next time I will go and visit the vehicle in person and not touch it with a barge pole if it has any big issues.
But yea... that's just my experience with WavMob. Your mileage may vary!
