Following yesterdays adventure - and issues - with the wheel locking mechanism it got me thinking, can I make a tool to help with this if it happens in future?
The problem
My right wheels locking mechanism got stuck as it needed a bit of lubrication.
The mechanism that forms part of the axle uses a double ended nut and you need to have a special double pronged tool to keep the plastic outer nut still whilst adjusting a flat head screw on the inner side of the nut - loosening or tightening the screw increases/decreases the tension and in turn allows the ball bearings to move freely.
Of course I didn't have the special pronged tool so I managed to cause some slight damage to one of the holes on the outer nut but hey, we live and learn... and now I've made a tool to help if I ever have this problem in future.
The solution
I had my thinking cap on today and to save any further damage in future I designed a tool that perfectly fits between the two holes of the outer nut and acts like a key making it easy to keep the outer nut steady whilst attacking the inner with a screw driver to tighten/loosen the mechanism.
It took about an hour to plan and create in my CAD software and about 30 minutes printing to have something I can call a success!
